Let’s Get Started! Today kicks off the Second Regular Session of the 68th Idaho Legislature

Today marks the beginning of another legislative session! Representing ICL’s interests again this year is Cynthia Gibson, our Government Relations Associate. With 2 years at ICL and 14 years of experience at the Idaho Statehouse, she is looking forward to another action-packed three months filled with the expected ups and downs from all those 105 lawmakers throw our way.

Joining Cynthia this year is our Legislative Fellow, Alex Watt! Keeping track of all the legislation that impacts ICL and its members is definitely a two-person job.

“Hi, all! I’m excited to introduce myself as the Legislative Fellow here at ICL. I was raised in Boise and am a fifth-generation Idahoan. I earned my bachelor’s degree in philosophy and my master’s degree in environmental management from Boise State University, where I also competed in speech and debate and served as Debate Captain.

I am deeply motivated to advocate for Idaho’s lands, waters, air, and wildlife, places that have shaped both our state and my own life. My wife and I spend as much time as possible outdoors, and that connection is what drives my commitment to conservation and responsible stewardship. I also love engaging in conversations about environmental philosophy and how our values translate into policy.” -Alex Watt

Make sure you bookmark our Bill Tracker as we update our website with more information as we get deeper into the session

Here’s what we are expecting…

  • We should see at least one proposal aimed at addressing how Idaho would protect public lands should the federal government transfer them to the state. As always, the devil is in the details, so ICL will analyze each bill carefully.

  • Rumors of pesticide and corporate immunity legislation are swirling again following multiple failed attempts over the last two years.

  • Wildfire suppression remains a hot topic as more people move into the Wildland-Urban Interface and their homes face increasing risk.

  • A variety of bills addressing the exploding need for more energy. ICL supports solutions that are clean, renewable, and affordable.

And to carry on the tradition of bringing you a little something “extra” each week to those who are signed up for our Legislative updates, we are going to share a song, podcast, story, or timely listen that captures the moment at the Idaho Legislature. So make sure you are signed up and check out what’s on the list!
