Artist in Residence
The Idaho Conservation League’s Artist in Residence program explores the nexus of art and nature. Launched in 2013, the program shares the beauty of the places we work to protect and tells stories of Idaho in creative new ways.
Introducing our 2026-2027 Artist in Residence, Diane Hill!
Diane Gilberte Hill is an award-winning Mix Media artist residing in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She has an Associates from Ricks College (now BYUI) acquiring an art education from Artists Richard Bird and Oliver Parsons, and received a BA in Interior Design from BYU, Provo, Utah.
After 30 years she retired from design and became an artist. Nature and wildlife have always been fascinating to her. As a girl, her father took the family camping in remote areas of Northern Ontario, Canada. This had a great influence on her artwork. In 2020 she developed an interest in botanical printmaking, a process of steaming plants and leaves onto cotton rag watercolor paper.
After much experimentation, she found ways to paint wildlife onto the botanical prints with watercolor, gouache, acrylic and ink. The art is sealed with UV varnish and encaustic wax, giving the paintings a rich satin appearance. Her ability to experiment and try out new applications continues to influence her work.
Thank you to our 2025-2026 Artist in Residence, Jasper Vanspoore!
