The City Beach station has been monitored every year since 2012. Nestled adjacent to downtown Sandpoint and also the Windbag Marina, City Beach is one of the most popular places to swim on Lake Pend Oreille.

It’s also popular with geese, which take up residence each summer due to the extensive grass lawns which they find delicious. Their excrement heightens concerns that e. Coli could become elevated in the nearby waters.

There has also been a longstanding problem with invasive weeds in this highly utilized area, and many years ago ICL helped facilitate an agreement between Bonner County, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, the City of Sandpoint and others, to refrain from using chemical herbicides to control the weeds. Divers now hand pull the weeds in order to ensure the area stays swimmable for all.
