Shoofly Oolite Hike – Boise, ID

November 1 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

Join Idaho Conservation League’s Public Lands Director, John Robison, for a hike in the Owyhees.

The Shoofly Oolite is a unique limestone rock outcrop near Grand View that features cliffs, caves, fossils and rare plants. The outcrop is a remnant of ancient Lake Idaho. The round trip hike is just under two miles.

Learn more about this special corner of Idaho and how to enjoy it while protecting the rare plants that live there. Nearby limestone deposits have been mined so the BLM is considering protecting this special area from future mining. The BLM is taking public comments until Nov. 4 on a proposal to protect this place for the next 50 years. By visiting the site, you will have a unique perspective on this area and how you might want to see it managed.

Hikers will meet at Albertons to drive to the Owyhees together. REGISTER HERE!
