Board of Directors

Jack Van Valkenburgh

Board Member

Jack got his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been an ICL member since moving to Idaho in 1987 when he set up phone trees for ICL membership alerts during the legislative session. He was executive director of the ACLU of Idaho for 18 years, helping to found and sustain that organization’s office in this state.  After his tenure with the ACLU, he maintained a private law practice, including work as guardian ad litem.

Since 2014, he has also served as a Short Term Observer of international elections for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Albania, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Georgia.  Jack appreciates the ICL’s track record of careful, deliberate and effective actions. He believes that the results of  our recent elections only underscore the need for the ICL to grow in strength and numbers. He has been committed to environmental issues since high school, when he started a school environmental club.
